Meet Nick, Design Intern

Nick is going to tell us about himself and his time as a design intern at Matchbox Design Group.

Describe yourself in three words.

“Handsome, Genius, Humble.”

Where did you grow up?

“A tiny farm town in Illinois called Bradford. Population: 700”

What are you doing during your internship at Matchbox Design Group?

“Nothing short of working miracles. But also some design.”

What do you like most about interning here?

“Learning about how important presentation is. You can have the best idea in the world, but the client won’t go for it if you don’t communicate it effectively.”

What did you do before interning at Matchbox Design Group?

“I am going to be a senior at Mizzou this fall, majoring in Graphic Design. I worked at the Mizzou Student Design Center before coming to Matchbox and have done a little bit of freelance work here and there.”

(Nick, who will more than likely loathe me a little for sharing this photo, also doubled as our resident model during his internship this summer and we are eternally grateful! – Colby)

Spare Time

What do you do in your spare time?

“Workout, mostly. I also always try to have a personal project going on outside of ‘work work’, and am taking a motion graphics class right now. But outside of those two, I love watching movies and critiquing them. Pulp Fiction is my go-to.”

Favorite St. Louis activity, restaurant or spot?

“Wandering around downtown and finding new places is always fun, but City Garden has been my favorite so far. As far as restaurants go, Twin Peaks is good. And Medina’s. And Bogart’s. Too many.”

What Is Exciting About New Trends?

Digital/design/dev trend you are most excited about these days?

“I see 3D modeling seeping into design and illustration more and more these days. And VR software is improving leaps and bounds. I’m excited to see how accessible these programs become and whether or not 2D designers will take to them.”

Special Talents and Personal Questions

Special talent you have?

“I can cross one eye while the other looks straight. And I can make my eyebrows dance.”

Famous person, you’ve met?

“I met former Chicago Bears players Brian Urlacher, Greg Olsen, and Richard Dent, but I’m not a big football fan. My favorite two were Brian Ortega (current UFC fighter) and Jens Pulver (former UFC champion).”

What’s something awesome about you that no one else knows?

“I’m a huge candy corn fan and I refuse to apologize for it.”
