Meet Jeremy Schwartz
Describe yourself in three words.
“I. Love. Tacos.”
Where did you grow up?
“I was born in St. Louis. Raised on Toasted Ravioli and Ted Drewes. I love to travel and have thought about moving elsewhere, but I’ll probably always come back to old STL.”
What do you do at Matchbox Design Group?
“For the most part, I just listen to everyone else’s conversations and wait for a good moment to drop a “That’s what she said” joke. That takes up most of my time. Occasionally I also make web pages and draw pretty pictures for our social media.
What do you like most about working here?
“Honestly, there are so many things. Everyone here is so talented and comes up with so many great ideas. Sometimes it’s just cool to hear about the work everyone is doing. It empowers me to do better work and try to come up with new innovative ideas every day. The managers encourage you to run with projects that match your talent. It just breeds great work. Also half-day Fridays. Those are pretty cool, too.”
What did you do before working at Matchbox Design Group?
What do you do in your spare time?
“Programming is my passion but besides webpages, sometimes I like to make games for iOS and Android. Nothing too exciting yet. Just little mini-games. I’m also one of those sidewalk guys that spins the big cardboard arrow telling you to get your haircut at Great Clips. I don’t get paid for it. I just do it for love of spinning signs.”
More About Jeremy Schwartz
Favorite St. Louis activity/restaurant/spot?
What design/dev trend you are most excited about in 2015?
“I love the new Google Material Design Spec. Especially the emphasis put on purposeful animation. It makes simple apps feel like living, breathing interactive user interfaces.”
Special talent you have?
“I can make a pretty sweet Tuna Noodle Casserole … ladies.”
Famous person you’ve met?
“One time I ran into Bill Murray at a Burger King. He ordered a chocolate shake. I had just ordered a Whopper meal with a coke and fries. As I’m walking to my table, he steps right in front of me, takes a couple french fries off my tray, shoves them in his mouth, stares me right in the eye and says, “No one will ever believe you.”… So far, he’s been completely right.
What’s something awesome about you that no one else knows?
“I wholeheartedly, secretly want to be a superhero who only fights people that text and drive … No, but seriously, you people need to stop texting and driving or that’s gonna happen!!!” – Sincerely, Emoji Man
What’s one piece of advice you’d like to give anyone reading this right now?
“Honk if you love great haircuts for reasonable prices!”
