Andrew Lema was born and raised in Entebbe, Uganda. From an early age, he loved tinkering with things and was expected to become an engineer like his father. He attempted to defy that narrative by pursuing a degree in Finance and Economics in college but later dropped out in favor of IT. His first foray into software development was in high school on a Pentium PC when he attempted to build an e-commerce website using Ruby on Rails. That didn’t work out but sparked in him a passion for writing code.
At Matchbox, Andrew is part of the engineering and support teams. He uses his 9+ years of experience in WordPress to quickly debug and fix site issues, implement patches, update sites, and build new features. A typical workday starts with prioritizing his tasks on Asana, touching base with the engineering and support teams, and hacking away at tasks in collaboration with his talented colleagues.
“I’m excited about the new WordPress update that makes it easier for just about anyone to build a beautiful website without the need for clunky old page builders. It’s definitely a game-changer, and I’m glad Matchbox is one of the few digital agencies actively adapting its development practices to embrace the new changes. I enjoy working at Matchbox because it has a healthy and collaborative vibe that’s an authentic mix of hard work and fun, allowing me to be myself and grow at the same time.”
