Eugene grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, where an early curiosity about computers eventually turned into a career in software development. He studied Business Information Technology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) before beginning his career building websites and custom digital solutions.
Over the past 10+ years, Eugene has worked across a wide range of projects, developing everything from custom WordPress themes and plugins to React-powered interfaces and more complex web applications. He particularly enjoys the problem-solving side of development: taking a design, requirement, or technical challenge and figuring out the cleanest way to turn it into something that works well for both users and the people who maintain it.
Eugene joined Matchbox in July 2024 as a Senior Developer. Today, he works across WordPress and frontend development, helping build custom solutions, improve development workflows, and tackle the technical challenges that come with creating accessible, performant, and maintainable websites.

Curious, ambitious, pragmatic.
I spend most of my free time with my family, usually trying out new restaurants, traveling when we get the chance, or finding something fun to do around Nairobi. I’m also a bit of a tech nerd, so there’s a good chance I’m experimenting with some new tool or working on a side project that was supposed to be “quick.”
I’m unusually good at figuring things out. Give me enough time with a problem, whether it’s code, a broken gadget, or something I know absolutely nothing about, and I’ll probably find a way to make it work.
A few thousand feet above the Indian Ocean. I went skydiving over the coast once and landed right on the beach. It’s pretty hard to beat the view on the way down.
I make a surprisingly good cocktail. The problem is I almost never make the same one twice.
