Get to Know Carmen Better
Carmen Barberena grew up in Nicaragua, a country located in Central America. She moved to Texas for college and graduated from Baylor University, with a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. After graduating college, Carmen ended up moving back home to Nicaragua where she got a job at an advertising agency. She went from an intern with basically no pay to a senior designer on the team.
Carmen was also a Production Manager for a promotional products company which is really where her love for process and organization began. Once she became a mom she realized the fast-paced world of advertising was nothing compared to the fast-paced world of parenthood. She soon realized that her life needed a bit more flexibility and balance which is what eventually led her to Matchbox.
Carmen is part of our administrative team, which means you’ll find her lending a hand across the agency wherever she’s needed. Like most members of the Matchbox crew, she wears many hats—but her specialty lies in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Basically, she’s our go-to for all things organization and efficiency.
No two days look exactly the same for Carmen—you never quite know what might land on her plate. A typical day often includes managing emails, organizing invoices, coordinating schedules, supporting company events, and assisting with internal communication. She also works closely with Brent and Cullen to help keep projects and priorities on track—all while keeping up with the demands of her most energetic “coworker,” her toddler.
