Meet Stephenie Wang, Design Intern
Describe yourself in three words.
“I had to ask some friends to help me with this one: Friendly, hard-working, and of course, weird.”
Where did you grow up?
“I am born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where the food is everything and a (pet) alligator in the backyard is normal.”
What are you doing during your internship at Matchbox Design Group?
“Design servant Intern.” ← (you can change this Colby if it’s not appropriate.) ← We Couldn’t NOT include that.
What do you like most about interning here?
“I really enjoy being able to work and collaborate with the talented team to help real-life clients (compared to the hypothetical ones at school). They don’t only strive to design an amazing website, but also think through every design function and user experience to sometimes painful detail, which I hate to love.”
What did you do before interning at Matchbox Design Group?
“I am a student at Washington University in St. Louis studying communication design and minoring in computer science and am now a rising senior. I have interned at various design companies, an architecture firm and a design company in Baton Rouge, before coming to Matchbox Design Group.”
Spare Time?
What do you do in your spare time?
“Lots and lots of Ultimate Frisbee. I play on a mixed club team called Thoroughbred and several other Frisbee-related leagues/practices. A lot of my free time is dedicated to that and chilling with friends afterward exploring bars and being goons. What little time I feel like I have left goes to a freelance project (a mural and booklet series) and cuddling Callahan, my dog.”
Favorite St. Louis activity, restaurant or spot?
“I actually really enjoy just exploring what St. Louis has. There isn’t much to Baton Rouge after living there most of your life and the WashU bubble is real, so just being able to experience new foods, drinks, places, and people is my favorite St. Louis activity. I’m taking full advantage of my summer here and I am loving it.” – Stephenie Wang
What Is Exciting About New Trends?
Digital/design/dev trend you are most excited about these days?
“I am excited about the emphasis on user experience and functionality to drive design and print work.”

Special talent you have?
“I can swing around weapons in a choreographed manner. I trained in wushu and weapons martial arts for 4 years competitively and was recognized as a national champion. I can also burp really loudly.” – Stephenie Wang

“Mickey mouse at Disney world. It was a good day.”
What’s something awesome about you that no one else knows?
“I can drink a whole bottle of syrup in under 45 secs and will never do it again.”
